On Monday, April 8, a total solar eclipse crossed North America with at least a partial view of the moon blocking out the sun throughout the continental U.S.

As many as 4 million people were expected to travel to viewing sites across 13 states in the path of totality to view the moon completely blocking out the sun for between 3 and 4 minutes. That path starts in Mexico and then traverses Texas and 12 other U.S. states including Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, New York and into New England.

In Southern Maryland, people ventured outside of their workplaces to parks and other areas to view the afternoon spectacle.
