GHENT, WV (WVNS) — Fires in the Region 4 area of the state have been reported in the Wyoming and Raleigh county areas.

According to Mat Bailey, the Regional Area Forester for the West Virginia Division of Forestry, a fire near the town of Woosley in Wyoming County, five miles north of Welch currently has a crew of five from the West Virginia Division of Forestry working on containing it. They have been working on this since 9:00 A.M. this morning, building containment lines around the fire.

As of now, it is still not contained. Bailey also mentioned that even with the rain putting it out, they will still put containment lines all the way around it.

As of 11 AM on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, Raleigh County has two fires both in the Spruce Mountain area. Volunteer fire crews worked on containment of the fires for six hours. Four West Virginia Division of Forestry members are on scene working on containing the fires, in which they are about 50 percent contained.

Bailey expressed that at the end of the day, they should be contained.

The Bradley Fire Department came to the scene, along with other departments who provided mutual aid to the Bradley Fire Department.

Two other fires in the Long Branch area of Wyoming County were completely contained last night.
