    Mt Baker Has 33 Inches and is Still Dumping

    A warm front pushed into the Cascades on Wednesday morning and has brought 33 inches in just 18 hours to the northern Cascades. Stevens Pass has 13 inches with Whistler reporting 12 inches Tuesday night. It is still dumping in the Cascade ranges or Washington. UPDATE : Thursday 3AM- Unofficial calculations with Telemetry show Baker currently at 47 inches (48 hours) with heavy snowfall ongoing. Models show another 12 inches likely on Thursday!

    Whistler Ski Area on Wednesday morning.  12 inches on the official report.

    Temps warmed to near freezing at most ski areas with mixed precipitation falling below 4,000 feet. Many ski areas, including Whistler, had multiple lift closures due to winds and heavy snow on Wednesday.

    Colder air moves in after midnight to the Cascade ranges with wet dense snow turning much lighter by Thursday morning (Intensity decreasing). Winds should also decrease.

    Telemetry at Mt Baker shows 17 inches at 6 AM Wednesday with another 16 inches as of 5 PM. Temps on the left side show near freezing at 4200 feet and it likely rained at the lowest elevation (3500 feet).

    Additional snowfall for the Western Cascades Wednesday night is impressive with colder air filtering in after midnight. There is also snow noted for BC with several more inches possible. Storm totals in the northern Cascades might exceed 4-5 feet!

    Snow will filter south on Wednesday night with Crystal, White Pass, and northern Oregon finally getting into the action for Thursday morning. They only reported light snow on Wednesday.

    Radar image via the OpenSnow maps on Wednesday evening showing heavy moisture pushing south over the entire range of the Washington Cascades. Oregon is beginning to see snowfall also.

    The next 3-4 days will be very active over the west with 5-7 feet for the Sierra and 2-3 feet for areas of the Rockies and Idaho. Stay tuned!
