LeBron James and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are undoubtedly two of the best players in NBA history.

But considering both spent significant portions of their respective basketball careers playing for the hallowed Los Angeles Lakers, some fans this week were bummed to find out that the pair doesn't exactly have a close friendship.

In a recent interview, Abdul-Jabbar spoke about his relationship with James, saying that while it's not exactly close, he respects what 'The King' has done for both Los Angeles and the game of basketball.

"I’ve never had a chance to talk to LeBron other than two or three minutes,” Abdul-Jabbar said, per the Los Angeles Times . “There’s no animosity or resentment there at all... As far as where his heart is and the things that he does, I’ve got nothing but admiration for him.”

James broke Abdul-Jabbar's all-time regular season scoring record this past season, scoring his 38,387th point on February 23, 2023.

To Abdul-Jabbar, though, that and all of the other awards LeBron has received throughout his NBA career are well warranted.

"He’s done remarkable things. He deserves all the accolades, whatever it is, that he’s accomplished," the Lakers legend said.

Kareem also mentioned that he's open to expanding his relationship with LeBron,

"We might get the chance [to speak]. I certainly wouldn’t be against it," Kareem said.

Here's what a few members of the basketball community had to say about Abdul-Jabbar's admission.

"Disappointing that they’ve not built a bond," one fan Tweeted.

"How do you never have the chance to talk to Lebron? Makes no sense," another fan asked.
