Just before 7 a.m. police were called to a home regarding a 1-week-old newborn not breathing.

Police say what appeared to be narcotics and paraphernalia were in plain view inside the home and those first responders were unable to revive the 13-day-old baby named Wade.

Indiana Mom Found Guilty of Beating Her Toddler to Death

When the mother, Taylor Smith, was interviewed, she told police that she went to sleep with the newborn around 2 a.m. and woke up later with the baby "underneath her body."

Timothy Wilson, the father, was also present.

He told investigators Smith had been ordered not to be around the newborn due to an investigation by the Indiana Department of Child Services. Wilson stated that they disobeyed the order so that the three could be "a family."

According to police, the house had no running water, and "conditions were not favorable." After obtaining a search warrant, officers confirmed the presence of narcotics use.

Smith and Wilson were arrested on a preliminary charge of causing death by neglect of a dependent.
