Twitter has suspended Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) for a week after she wrote that vaccines are “failing.”

A Twitter spokesperson told The Hill in a statement that her tweet on Monday “was labeled in line with our COVID-19 misleading information policy.”

Her account will be in read-only mode for one week “due to repeated violations of Twitter Rules,” the spokesperson added.

Greene said in the tweet that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) "should not approve the covid vaccines."

"There are too many reports of infection & spread of #COVID19 among vaccinated people," Greene said.

"These vaccines are failing and do not reduce the spread of the virus & neither do masks," she added. "Vaccine mandates & passports violate individual freedoms."

The tweet was labeled by Twitter as "misleading." Users were not permitted to reply, share or like the post.

Twitter has a five-strike policy on COVID-19 misinformation. The fourth strike is a seven-day account lock.

Greene responded to the suspension with a statement on Tuesday, defending the comments made in her tweet before criticizing White House adviser Anthony Fauci and calling Twitter users “hypocrites.”

“I have vaccinated family who are sick with COVID. Studies and news reports show vaccinated people are still getting COVID and spreading COVID,” the congresswoman wrote, before saying she has spoken with “numerous people” who have reported “scary side effects” from vaccines, including Myocarditis, blood clots and miscarriages.

“In my opinion, the FDA should not approve these vaccines until more research is done,” she emphasized. “But Twitter suspended me for speaking the truth, and tweeting what so many people are saying.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said some individuals may have side effects from COVID-19 vaccines, writing that they are "normal signs that your body is building protection." Some common side effects are pain, redness and swelling in the injection area, tiredness, headaches, muscle pain, chills, fever and nausea. The agency says that serious side effects are "extremely unlikely" after being vaccinated.

Greene on Tuesday also denounced Fauci for “harshly criticizing” bikers at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally amid a spike in COVID-19 cases while being “silent” when it came to former President Obama ’s scaled-back birthday party this weekend.

“But if I dare says the truth, Twitter suspends me because the truth is so offensive to the fragile hypocrites all over Twitter!” she added.

She also called COVID-19 a "Communist Chinese bioweapon."

Green was suspended from Twitter for 12 hours last month after claiming that COVID-19 was “not dangerous” for people who are not obese or are under the age of 65.

She also wrote in a separate tweet that “defeating obesity” would protect people against complications and death from the virus.
