Jennie Stuart reports most COVID-19 hospitalizations since May

    2021-08-03

There were seven people hospitalized with COVID-19 on Tuesday at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, according to spokeswoman Jayme Tubbs. It's the largest number of patients hospitalized with the virus in a single day since May 17.

In the last week, the hospital has reported a seven-day average of five COVID-19 hospitalizations per day — up from two a month ago. The increase comes just a month and a half after the average number of virus hospitalizations dropped to zero for the first time in more than a year on June 22.

Like other hospitals across the state and in western Kentucky, Jennie Stuart has seen an uptick as the highly contagious delta variant creates a surge of COVID-19 cases nationwide.

In mid-November, as hospitalizations grew from single to double digits, local health care workers battling stress and fatigue after fighting a public health crisis for eight months, were already stretched thin. It's now a battle they've had to wage for more than twice that long, with only the briefest of reprieves.

At the pandemic’s peak in early January, the seven-day average of COVID-19 patients at Jennie Stuart reached 41.

I Am not understanding why it's so hard to mandate them again. it's the only way we will get the cases down. People cannot keep walking around in public unprotected. That vaccine Isn't getting our cases down.
