(BALTIMORE) Two Baltimore police officers were shot Tuesday morning while attempting to arrest a homicide suspect, according to The Hill.

The suspect, Justin Powell, was shot and killed after he wounded two officers who pulled him over in his vehicle after they suspected he was a murder suspect.

The two officers, part of the federal Warrant Apprehension Task Force led by the U.S. Marshals Service, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said the officers returned fire after Powell, 32, opened fire as they approached his car in a mall parking lot before 8 a.m.

Authorities placed a warrant out for his arrest for murder and possessing a handgun for the June 19 murder of Ali Hines, 38, per The Baltimore Sun.

He also faced multiple previous charges in Maryland, including kidnapping and armed robbery and in 2016 was found guilty of illegally carrying a handgun and possession of narcotics.

“Our officers and our marshals were doing exactly what the people of Baltimore want us doing,” Harrison said. “That is, pursuing violent offenders.”

U.S. Marshals do not typically wear body cameras so it is unclear if there is any footage of the shooting.

“Today is a painful reminder of the dangers that law enforcement face every day in performing their duties to keep our communities safe,” acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Jonathan F. Lenzner said in a statement.

Imagine that...a black man wanted for murder and fighting with police ends up dead. That's more great work by our men in blue...taking a savage off the street. Keep up the outstanding work men. #BlueLivesMatter
