(OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich.) After an alleged road rage altercation Monday evening at a gas station in Troy, Michigan, a Detroit firefighter was shot to death, The Detroit News reports.

According to Detroit Fire Commissioner Eric Jones in a statement on Tuesday, the firefighter was identified as Senior Lt. Francis Dombrowski, 55, of Rochester Hills, Michigan.

At around 9:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the parking lot of a Shell gas station on Rochester Road at East Wattles Road for a report of a shooting. Upon arriving at the gas station, authorities found Dombrowski wounded.

Despite police and paramedics administering aid to Dombrowski, following transportation to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

Following a preliminary investigation, it was discovered that Dombrowski had left his home in a black Ford Crown Victoria and traveled south on Rochester Road. During his drive, a white Jeep Cherokee, model year 2014 to 2018, followed Dombrowski into the gas station parking lot and the drivers began to argue with one another.

A person inside the Jeep then fired multiple rounds at Dombrowski and fled east on Wattles Road.

Per officials, the Jeep's occupants arrived at the Troy Police Department early Tuesday morning and identified themselves to authorities. Following an interview, police proceeded to arrest the Jeep's passenger.

In his statement, Jones expressed his feelings regarding the loss of the respected and tenured Detroit firefighter.

Senior Lieutenant Francis Dombrowski served the citizens of Detroit and the Detroit Fire Department with honor and distinction for 29 years. We are deeply saddened to hear about his tragic loss. He will be missed by his family, friends and his family here at the Detroit Fire Department.

The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing, and anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call the Troy Police Department at (248) 524-3477.
