(BUFFALO, N.Y.) On Friday, a Long Island man will begin a 555-mile run from Buffalo, New York, to Battery Park in New York City to raise money for research on Parkinson's disease, according to News 12 Long Island.

Wai Law, a triathlete and ultrarunner from Bethpage, plans to run unassisted while pushing a stroller to carry his supplies. He intends to complete the run in roughly 10 days.

Law has set running records and run for charitable causes before. According to his fundraising page, this run will be his longest yet and he will follow the newly completed Empire State Trail. All the money raised will go to Thomas Hartman Center for Parkinson’s Research at Stony Brook University.

He explained on the fundraising page what spurs him to hit the pavement for a good cause.

"For me, outdoor activities, running in particular, are more than exercise," Law said. "It is also a powerful way to help organizations, communities and families. I run for those who can’t, I run to raise funds for important medical research and I run to help pay for expenses that a family may need while dealing with a medical crisis."

According to News12, Law decided to run to support Parkinson's disease research this time in honor of Ruben Almodovar, the father of a longtime friend who died four years ago from the disease.

Law had previously run 103 miles from New Paltz, NY, to Queens in 24 hours for the same cause.
