Reston Town Center: Start with True Food Kitchen
2021-06-17
There are great things to offer in Washington DC, but sometimes there are those neighborhoods outside, in the suburbs, that you have to visit. One of those places is Reston Town Center, about 30 to 45 minutes outside of DC, heading towards Dulles International Airport. It is a whole new world, like National Harbor, Ballston Quarter, The Mosaic District, and even Fairfax, Virginia.
You can bet there will be an avocado on it. Ancient Grains Bowl and Grass-fed Burger.True Food Kitchen Instagram.
These places all have good neighborhood vibes, and some of their restaurants are owned by former DC restaurant owners, who have also made their way, or graduated themselves out of the hustle and bustle of Washington, DC.
Eating Clean Has Never Been Easier
With a revitalization of clean eating, healthy living, and adopting a better sustainable life style, new restaurants are accommodating this new demand. One of these restaurants is True Food Kitchen, a restaurant located at 11901 Democracy Drive, Reston, VA 20190. It's a new restaurant anchor that looks over the Reston Town Square, where the ice rink is usually located, which opens in the winter months.
The growing restaurant concept offers a wide-open space, with a bar, and an active kitchen, where you can see team members buzzing in and out like a beehive, pollinating the tables with good clean paleo, vegan or keto eats.
Recommendations
The menu rotates with the seasons, but a must-have was the Edamame Guacamole with avocado, cilantro pesto, pumpkin seed, aleppo chili & house-made pita chips. There is the Good Earth Kale Cobb Salad, with cashew poblano ranch, avocado, asparagus, snap pea, pickled jicama, coconut bacon, cherry tomato, garbanzo bean, gorgonzola (VEG GF). Do not think it is just a vegan and vegetarian restaurant. They have a Grass-fed Burger with umami, mushroom, caramelized onion, organic arugula, parmesan, vegenaise, and a flaxseed bun. And you must get the Avocado Key Lime Pie with organic strawberry, cashew, and coconut whipped cream.
There's a particular cocktail that was very popular at the time of this visit, and that was "The Monarch" with organic gin, elderflower, butterfly pea flower, and tonic, which you can hear ice shaking constantly from the bar. It has a beautiful purple hue, cucumber, and a juniper garnish.
Why it is So Good
