Many of the residents of the Chippewa Valley settled in this area because it’s a region of abundant natural wonders. Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, is a community surrounded by beautiful waterways that allow individuals to interact with nature in a way that few people in the world have the privilege to enjoy.

From Glen Lock Lake to Lake Wissota, and from Duncan Creek to the Chippewa River, there are plenty of options for getting out on the water. Both rivers and lakes provide a much needed relief from the warm temperatures of a hot summer day.

There is no better option for enjoying a cool Wisconsin evening than taking an hour to appreciate the shores of a Wisconsin lake or river. As the sun sets on the horizon, the sky lights up with colors that compliment the cool green of the foliage and the soft blue of the river.

Recently, stand up paddle boarding has become a popular trend. Chippewa Falls has become a natural tourist destination for those who wish to practice this healthy and relaxing sport. There are many options in and around the town where athletes can get a workout or simply relax and float.

A stand up paddle board looks like a large surfboard and can be used in both a standing and a sitting position. It requires both balance and strength, and is used by athletes of all disciplines because it’s such an effective and beneficial core workout.

Inflatable stand up paddle boards are very popular because they are easy to transport. They can be collapsed down to the size of a large backpack, and they fit conveniently in the trunk or back seat of a compact car.

One place that makes for an ideal in-town location is the flowage area north of the Chippewa Falls hydroelectric dam. This is an area that is very popular with local fisherman and can be accessed from a boat landing that connects with Pumphouse Road.

Take note that anyone who goes out onto the flowage should not travel south beyond the boat landing so as to avoid the dangerous currents that are created by the dam. Those who enjoy recreational activities on water of any kind should educate themselves on the danger zones created both above and below dams.

The water above the boat landing is very tranquil although it can behave differently depending on if the water is high or low. There is abundant wildlife along the shores, and residents have noted the nests of bald eagles that spend most of their time hunting and fishing near the town.

Free parking is available at the boat landing. The depth of the water varies, and the current is usually minimal but can vary.

Whether you are a resident of Chippewa Falls, or you are only here for a short visit, you can’t truly understand the community unless you’ve seen it from the perspective of the water. Beautiful fresh water lakes and rivers have a huge influence on what it means to live in this part of the world.

Getting out on the water is a wonderful way to relax and connect with an essential part of our inner selves. The waters of Chippewa Falls offer some of the best options for stand up paddle boarding in the state. Chippewa Falls offers wonderful options for recreation no matter how you prefer to get out on the water.
