HOUSTON — "The History in America in My Lifetime", a new book by Brooks Sterritt, is now ready to satiate your hunger for historical literature and accompany your evening break.

The novel, set in the present U.S., tells a story about a shredding factory employee who encounters a mysterious film and grows his obsession with finding the film's director.

The writer, Brooks Sterritt, a UHV faculty member since 2019, teaches creative writing and literature courses for undergraduate and graduate students. In this work, he drew his inspiration from Francis Bacon, a figurative painter who once quipped that he wanted "to capture the history of Europe in his lifetime in a single image".

Sterritt tried to focus on summarizing the history of America's image into a single book— a difficult task which he commented on, "Obviously, it's an impossible goal, but what would that look like?" Sterritt said.

Driven by this question, Sterritt tried to provide an answer, and he certainly delivered here. Readers will also notice his specializations in technology, film, and the internet through the references used in the novel.

The novel has caught people in awe and received uplifting reviews, including one from the Pulitzer-Prize finalist and author, Luis Alberto, who stated, "Brooks Sterritt writes like a demented John McPhee."

"The History in America in My Lifetime" is Brooks Sterritt's first published novel. Previously, his writings have been featured in various media, such as the Los Angeles Review of Books, Salt Hill, Puerto del Sol, The Believer, Subtropics, and more. The novel is available to purchase through bookstores and online platforms such as Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, and Target.
