CLEVELAND — On Saturday, June 19, the Juneteenth Freedom Fest will be hosting various festivities at Mall C, Downtown Cleveland, from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Juneteenth Freedom Fest is held to commemorate the ending of slavery and the freedom of all African Americans on June 19, 1865, which aims to position Cleveland as a national leader in celebrating the occasion. Cleveland’s Freedom Fest will become an annual destination event starting this year.

The city-wide, family-friendly event will feature:

    - Grammy Award performer Terri Lyne Carrington + Social Science, with special guests Ms. Lisa Fischer and Maimouna “Mumu Fresh” Youssef,

    - Karamu House, the country’s oldest Black producing theater, with his “Freedom on Juneteenth: Songs of Liberation” performance,

    - a firework show made possible by #CL3Alliance, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Brown, and Cleveland Indians.

The special performance from Karamu House will start at 6 p.m., and the closing fireworks show by #CL3Alliance shall begin at 10 p.m.

The festivities will not end there. JACK Entertainment vendor village will shine the spotlight on Black businesses and entrepreneurs. They will also discuss education and community programming supported by The Sherwin-Williams Company, the Good Community Foundation, and AKA Team Construction.

Besides live music, food trucks, and beverage concessions, there will also be family-friendly activities, including arts and crafts, live art demonstrations from #VoicesofCLE artists, and other art performances.

If you would like to contribute to making Cleveland’s Juneteenth Freedom Fest a success, the organizers are looking for volunteers from the community. Sign up at https://juneteenthcle.com/volunteer to volunteer.
