A 10-year-old boy was hurt after he and his father reportedly engaged in a drive-by shooting with paintball guns in Opa-locka, as reported by the Associated Press on Wednesday.

The police have revealed that a resident from Opa-Locka thought his home was being attacked on Sunday evening. At that time 26-year-old Michael Williams was driving his 10-year-old son to try out a paintball attack on an Opa-locka house.

Williams told the officers that his son “begged” him to drive over to a house where other young people had allegedly gathered on Sunday evening so he could get to fire his paintball gun at a window, as The Blaze notes.

The news outlet also points out that it is not clear if the child meant to use the paintball gun on the group of young people or on the house itself.

The father who claims he complied with his son’s wishes, got to the specified house and the son reportedly fired several times with his paintball gun.

Inside the house, the owner believed he was under attack. He has chosen not to have his identity published but shared that he returned fire in response. It was just one shot. However, it ended up hurting the child.

The Associated Press report, which does not say whether the boy was outside or inside the vehicle when he fired his paintball gun toward the home, says the child fell after being hurt and was then hit by his father’s car.

The father then reportedly took the child and drove him back home, where his mother immediately called emergency services.

No further information has been published about the boy’s injuries. The Miami Herald has reported that officials have charged Williams with child neglect and great bodily harm. It is not clear if he will have an attorney defending him or not.

In a police report the father is accused of acting “recklessly by agreeing to conduct a drive-by paint ball shooting,” the news outlet added related to the Opa-Locka incident.
