From tickets to unlimited metro cards, these are the gift the government offer when you get vaccinated

New York City is thinking of all possible ideas to encourage New Yorkers to get vaccinated against COVID-19, especially the young population. That's why they've taken steps from eliminating appointments and eligibility limits to creating more neighborhood immunization centers.

One of the most creative proposals was announced Monday by Governor Andrew Cuomo: offering the injections at New York City Subway stations and giving a free one-week unlimited MetroCard to anyone who accepts the immunization.

This new plan, for which the Johnson & Johnson vaccine that only requires one dose will be used, will begin next Wednesday, May 12, at eight MTA stations, Penn Station on 34th Street, in Grand Central, on 180th Street. East in The Bronx, at 179th Street in Jamaica in Queens, at Broadway Junction and Coney Island, in Brooklyn, as well as at the LIRR station in Hempstead, and the Metro-North station in Ossining.

We have to be creative, and that is why from Wednesday to Sunday, we will be offering vaccines at the central stations of the Subway, the LIRR, and the Metro-North. And whoever injects will receive free rides on the MTA," Cuomo reported, adding that specifically, "they will be given a free seven-day MetroCard, as well as two one-way tickets to any area served by the LIRR and Metro-North."

Those who get vaccinated will receive free tickets to the main attractions of New York City and games.

But if that weren't enough, Blasio announced that those who inject would receive tickets to the main attractions of the Big Apple such as the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo, and the Coney Island Aquarium.

In addition to these attractions, which will include some presentations at the Lincoln Center, the free tickets will also be to witness sports matches of some of the city's teams, such as the baseball 'Brooklyn Cyclones' and the professional soccer New York City Football Club (NYCFC),

Anyone who hasn't been vaccinated now is the time. And we want to make it easier, and we want it to be fun, and we want to give you some incentive. So today, we are announcing incentives that I think will really encourage some of the people who just haven't gotten used to the idea or have been waiting for the right time. This is the right time: free tickets,Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday.

Last week Governor Andrew Cuomo offered tickets to Yankees and Mets games for those who get vaccinated at those teams' stadiums the same day they go to see a game.

The Mayor reported that the City had administered more than 7 million vaccines as of Monday, but the vaccination rate was falling precipitously since April when up to 115,000 vaccines were given in a single day, in contrast to last Friday when they were less than 60,000 injections and less than 16,000 on Sunday.

"Each person who is vaccinated helps to move everything forward," said De Blasio, adding that we have reached "the point where supply exceeds demand."

The City's goal is for 5 million New Yorkers to be fully vaccinated by June, but with 20 days until the end of May, that number is currently at 3 million.
