At least one person is dead and two injured after a shooing at a Stop & Shop on Long Island Tuesday.

According to NBC New York, police said the shooting took place around noon at the grocery store at 50 Cherry Valley Ave. in West Hempstead in Nassau County.

CNN reported that Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said the shooting happened in the manager's office on an upper level of the store.

The suspect is believed to have fled the scene, possibly jumping on a nearby bus.

"This is a person of interest, that person of interest we believe is the shooter," Ryder said, adding "he left the scene and he was witnessed still carrying the handgun."

According to CNN, the person who was killed was a 49-year-old man.

Hundreds of shoppers were in the store at the time of the shooting, said Ryder.

The local school district has been put on lockdown and schools have been advised to secure their buildings.

Authorities do not yet have a motive for the shooting.
