BANGOR — A Troy woman has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Bangor to Social Security fraud, health care fraud, and theft of public money. According to court records, from about October 2013 to February 2020, Christie Mitchell, 49, lied to the Social Security Administration (SSA) about her husband’s presence in her household and his income to fraudulently appear eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments.

In the summer and fall of 2022, the Sangerville Town Hall faced a significant setback when the Maine Municipal Association canceled its property coverage due to necessary repairs. Consequently, the select board closed the town hall and relocated the town office to a rental costing $1,300 a month. This abrupt change caught residents off guard, especially during the fall elections when voters found the town hall closed and had to resort to casting their votes at Grace Bible Church. Volunteers help prepare Hermon Little League fields for opening day
HERMON--Baseball season is underway and in order to prepare for the opening day of Little League in Hermon, volunteers gathered over the weekend to get the fields prepared. Approximately 75 folks from the community gave of their time to rake or weed the baseball and softball fields in Hermon on Sunday. Players, parents and coaches lent a hand to pick up trash and debris at the fields.
Hermon High Seniors teach finance to fourth graders
HERMON, Maine (WABI) - Hermon High School Seniors taught fourth graders the basics of finance. “We’re reading a book, and it talks about things you can spend with a dollar, things you can spend with $10, and it’s like penny candy or balloons. So, in our presentation, it talks about how you can either save your money or you can buy something, you want to spend or save it up for something important, or you can spend your dollar and buy 25 pieces of penny candy, or like it kind of just shows an example within our presentation of real-life situations,” said Saige Lang, Senior, Hermon High School.
