Record-breaking heat possible in Portland this weekend
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portlanders typically expect cool, even crisp days during October, not record-breaking heat. Sunny skies and a strong ridge of high pressure will push Portland area temperatures above average by nearly 10-15 degrees this weekend. Patchy morning fog along the Willamette Valley will quickly clear, giving way to sunny and warm afternoon conditions. The heat will continue to intensify Sunday, as the 74-year-long record will likely fall.

Near-record warmth possible this weekend
A strong upper-level ridge will develop and move over the PNW this weekend. The ridge will allow temperatures to climb well above average and possibly reach record territory. We’ll start off with patchy areas of fog early Saturday morning before turning sunny for the rest of the day. By the afternoon, easterly winds will start to develop which will help push temperatures into the low to mid 80s! Sunday will be very similar to Saturday except for being a few degrees warmer.

Northern showers this morning, dry everywhere else
A few showers and clouds are slowly moving south into the region this morning, but don’t expect much. The showers will continue to weaken as they move through. If you live along the Oregon coast or in the Portland metro, you might see some light showers. Southwest Washington could see spotty showers. The northern coast has the best chance for measurable rain, but we’re still talking very light amounts. If you’re in Salem or farther south, you should stay completely dry.
