SECAUCUS, N.J. -- The NHL held the 2024 Draft Lottery on Tuesday evening at the NHL Network's studio in Secaucus, New Jersey. The New Jersey Devils will select 10th overall at the 2024 NHL Draft after finishing the 2023-24 season with a record of 38-39-5 and missing the postseason.
The Devils entered Tuesday's NHL Draft Lottery with a 3.5 percent chance of landing the first lottery draw.
The last time the Devils selected 10th overall was in 1996. The organization drafted defenseman Lance Ward.
The 2024 NHL Draft is slated for June 28-29 at the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"Hosting the 2024 NHL Draft at Sphere perfectly captures Las Vegas' evolution as the Sports and Entertainment Capital of the World," said Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, in the official press release. "Las Vegas has been a hockey town since the puck dropped at the first Golden Knights game in 2017. As the reigning Stanley Cup Champions, we couldn't be more thrilled that the NHL chose Las Vegas and this truly innovative venue to welcome its next generation of players."
During his end-of-season media availability, Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald was asked if he would keep his pick or attempt to trade it for a player who can help his team now.
"I'm not looking to give it away, but I'm also willing to use it if it helps this team take the next level with a strong player who can really fill a need of where we want to go," he said. "If that doesn't happen, then you're banking a future NHL player that can make an impact."
