NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) — Putting the ‘new’ in Newark is one company that has more tech startups calling the City home.

HAX wants to be the hub of all things hard tech in its new U.S. headquarters on Cedar Street.

“This is a game-changer,” said Governor Phil Murphy (D-NJ), who helped cut the ribbon. “This entity will berth a whole generation of companies that will employ folks from Jersey, folks who are residents who will live here, raise their families here, have their professional careers here.”

Inside its many laboratories, companies bring their ideas, while HAX brings the hardware to turn those ideas into reality.

Tom Weindl’s company, Oli Technologies, is in its product-building phase.

“We’re building compact, portable, and intuitive dialysis systems for end-stage kidney disease patients,” said Weindl.

A resident of Somerset County, he’s happy to have HAX close by. “Hax was like a glove-fit for us being able to use their resources for building out a bigger mechanical device that harnesses our core chemistry,” said Weindl.

With so much technology and innovation under this roof—along with many bright minds—officials hope that this will inspire others to create their own startups.

“With the startups that are going to grow out of this business, we just want to put our arms around them and help them be successful, help them stay here in Newark, help them employ Newarkers,” said Marcus Randolph of Invest Newark. “It’s going to be more investment the City and more opportunity.”
