Carmelo Anthony claims Linsanity was a $100 million business, but Jeremy Lin wasn't up to it: "Bring your parents here and let us talk to them"

It has been over a decade since Linsanity hit the NBA, and yet, people still talk about that incredible run. However, not all conversations are positive, as some fans still think that Carmelo Anthony and the other members of the New York Knicks were envious of the attention that Jeremy Lin got from it.

During the recent episode of his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Melo clarified that he was never against Linsanity.

"People always talk about nobody liked the Linsanity, personally me. You get what I'm saying?" said Anthony. "They threw that out there. But people don't know that behind the scenes, we were very supportive."

The Linsanity phenomenon

For two weeks during the 2011-12 NBA season, Lin went from being an undrafted point guard sitting on the Knicks bench to one of the best players in the league. He became the first player in NBA history to record at least 20 points and seven assists in his first five starts. In his 12 starts before the All-Star break, the Harvard University product averaged 22.5 points and 8.7 assists per contest, with the Knicks posting a 9-3 record.

Lin became a worldwide sensation overnight. He appeared in several magazine covers, and his jersey sales skyrocketed. The phenomenon became known as Linsanity, and according to Melo, Jeremy could have capitalized on it through business deals and branding.

"Linsanity could have been a $100 million business, easy," added Melo. "And I'm trying to get this through to him. He like, 'Nah, I'm not brought up on that. My Parents…' But I respected that. But I'm like, 'I hear that, matter of fact, bring your parents in here. Let us talk to them.'"

Rumor said it was Melo who ended Linsanity

While Melo claims he tried to help his former teammate make money off Linsanity, he called the Houston Rockets' three-year $25 million free agency offer to Lin ' ridiculous .' Rumors also said that Anthony played a part in the Knicks' decision not to bring the point guard back after the Linsanity season, which Jeremy addressed a few years back.

"I mean, I think that's the theory, and that's what everyone says, but I can't feed the speculation train because I don't actually know. I know, and I'm saying this truthfully, that there were multiple points of opposition completely outside of Melo within what was going on," Lin said .

"Once D'Antoni resigned, there was already opposition within the organization, whether it was the coaching staff that took over or certain members of the front office. But there was definitely, from what I've heard or gathered in a few years after, it wasn't all as rosy as people thought it was. I don't know who to attribute it to, but I know there were multiple points of opposition," he added.

Despite missing out on what Melo said was a huge business opportunity, Lin still earned over $64 million during his NBA career. That's not too shabby for a 6-3 guard who wasn't supposed to make it anyway.
