    Tadhana

Keep your phone handy at this tiny Lower East Side restaurant, because the food here begs to be documented—like when you open what appears to be a book, only to discover a sea grape tart and a sweet potato fritter topped with trout roe inside. You won’t find lumpia or adobo in the seven-course tasting menu (with more little bites between) at Tadhanà, but you will find playful, fancy takes on Filipino dishes: like jackfruit puree transformed tableside into one-bite halo halo with liquid nitrogen. Some of the most memorable flavors are the humblest, like the electric house-made aged vinegar—a perfect hot and sour accompaniment to their grilled pork belly. Dinner is $185, but it is BYOB, and there’s a sweet Pinoy hip-hop playlist, making this a good setting for a splashy date if you've got something fun to celebrate.
