Update: Jonathan Majors Receives Year-Long Counseling Program in Assault Sentencing

Jonathan Majors has been ordered to complete a yearlong counseling program in relation to his assault case from last year, according to AP. This means the actor will not serve jail time for his conviction against an ex-girlfriend.

Majors could have served a year behind bars for a misdemeanor assault, which was decided by a Manhattan jury in December. Instead, he will have to complete a 52-week, in-person batterer’s intervention program and continue with therapy. He will face a year in jail if he violates the terms.

Majors appeared in court with his girlfriend, fellow actor Meagan Good.

Last year, Majors' lawyer released a string of text messages from the woman said to be the alleged victim in the ongoing assault case. As previously reported, the incident occurred over a weekend during a taxi ride in New York City. The legal team believed that the revelation of these messages will not only help prove Majors' innocence, but also aid in alleviating doubt from public opinion.

The Creed III star was taken into custody last year after his partner claimed she was assaulted while the two were in a cab in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Additional details revealed that Majors was the one who actually c alled the police out of concern for the woman's safety during a mental health incident. Many believe that this update was significant as it contradicted previous reports that he had law enforcement called on him. He maintained pleas of innocence thoughout his trial.

In a past statement shared with EBONY from Priya Chaudhry, Majors' defense attorney, "Mr. Majors completely denies assaulting the woman. Around 11 a.m. on March 25, 2023, Jonathan Majors called 911 out of concern for the woman’s mental health. The police arrived with the paramedics, as is standard procedure, and arrested Mr. Majors due to an NYPD protocol requiring arrest in certain circumstances."

Chaudhry continued, "On that same day, only 7 and 9 hours later, the woman sent text messages to Mr. Majors admitting that she was the one who used physical force against him. She also disavowed any allegations that he had done anything to her, and confirmed that Mr. Majors called 911 because of her mental condition. These are those messages, redacting the woman’s name for her privacy."

Majors has yet to make a statement with his sentencing annoucement.
