    U.S. Women's Open qualifier at Sugar Mill: Kyriacou, Szokol earn the two berths

    Stephanie Kyriacou and Elizabeth Szokol earned berths into the 2024 U.S. Women’s Open at the 36-hole qualifier Monday at Sugar Mill Golf Club in New Smyrna Beach.

    Kyriacou, a 23-year-old Aussie and two-time winner on the European Tour, shot rounds of 66-70 for an 8-under-par total of 136. Her second round Monday included She’ll be making her first U.S. Open start in this year’s national championship, scheduled from May 30-June 2 at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania.

    Szokol, a 28-year-old Chicago native, finished solo second, a shot back of Kyriacou with rounds of 67-70 to capture the second of two available U.S. Open berths in Monday’s field of 49.

    The Sugar Mill qualifier also presented alternate status to the next two top finishers. Australian Sarah Kemp shot 5 under to finish third and South African Paula Reto finished fourth at 3 under to take the second alternate spot.
