NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – The New Providence Education Foundation (NPEF) President Chris Naughton attended the Thursday, April 25 Board of Education meeting along with Suzanne Botvinis to hand out a check of $62,945 for educational programs that are not covered in the budget. The organization had earlier donated $4,500 for the new therapy dog program “New Providence Pals with Paws.”

The NPEF was founded in 2004 to create a partnership between the community and the school district, as well as to raise funds for educational programs that are not included in the regular budget. Naughton explained that the organization is raising money in three ways: through individual donations, through local business sponsorships, and through organized fundraising events. In return the organization provides grants for teacher-initiated programs. The NPEF also offers scholarships to two graduating seniors.

This marked the last time for Botvinis, a NPEF board member since 2016, to hand a check to the BOE as she will be stepping down from the organization. She noted that this year’s check is not the largest she has given to the school district, but still sizable. She encouraged teachers to continue submitting grant applications as the organization tries to provide funds for as many programs as possible.

Naughton encouraged community members to join the NPEF and participate in their fundraising events, that are both “fun” and important means of raising funds for the schools.
