Severe thunderstorms begin tonight and continue into Thursday morning
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - We started of the morning with a few scattered showers and a single non-severe thunderstorm popping up over NCWV, we will continue to see those scattered shower chances throughout the day today. High temperatures today are going to remain above seasonal average being in the mid 80s throughout the lowlands and in the high 70s in our higher elevation areas. If your area gets hit by one of those scattered showers in the early afternoon however, you most likely will not reach these high temps. Starting late tonight we will start to see some more consistent rainfall and possibly some severe thunderstorms with the main concern being damaging winds. This will continue throughout Thursday morning, then it will start to clear up during the afternoon hours, we will still see mostly cloudy skies and a chance for scattered showers and a few possible thunderstorms, but the severe factor of those thunderstorms will have dissipated. On Thursday evening another round of rain showers and thunderstorms will cross our area but will stay non-severe. Our highs on Thursday will drop down to around seasonal average with the lowlands seeing mid to high 70s and higher elevations dropping down to the low 70s. Daniel Niemasz has all of this and more on your First Alert Forecast.

Scattered showers and storms remain possible through Memorial Day Weekend
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - So far today, much of NCWV has evaded strong thunderstorms, despite them being present around our region thanks to an approaching cold front. That front will keep chances of strong storms alive in our area through tomorrow morning, when the front crosses and sags to our south. Not all of us will see severe storms; in fact, not all of us will see thunderstorms, period. But, isolated instances of damaging wind gusts and small hail remain possible for the entire area. With the front to our south on Thursday, we’re likely to see a dip in temperatures (back to around average). Thunderstorm activity will primarily ride along the front to our south, but some strays could still pop up in NCWV at any point during the day and night. Friday has the lowest potential for showers and storms in our area, but the potential is non-zero. Generally, expect clouds and sun on Friday with temperatures getting back to the low 80s. Saturday is once again another day where isolated thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon/evening hours, but not everyone will be affected; on this day, highest chances will be in the east. Sunday and Monday will follow a similar pattern of scattered shower and storm chances. The key takeaway for the Memorial Day Weekend forecast: while showers and storms will remain a potential all weekend, by no means will the weekend be a complete washout. Showers and storms that do arise will not last very long. Outdoor activities should be OK, but keep in mind a thunderstorm could blow through with heavy rain and gusty winds, pushing you inside for about 20-30 minutes.
