For the past few years, the Smoke Signal has primarily covered school and local events through long-form, in depth articles. An unintended consequence of this has been not being able to report on a broader range of events as well as articles not being relevant as the topics they are about occur days or weeks before they are published. In an effort to increase our coverage, Smoke Signal staff have made a commitment to meet during lunch once a week and write a brief but still complete article during that time. The goal is to transition from having a semesterly publication to having a monthly publication. The Smoke Signal is excited to see how this new initiative will allow us to better achieve our main goal as a news organization: get the word out about what’s happening in the Lenape community.
