NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Pro-Palestinian protests at Yale University have taken a new turn as demonstrators demand the abolition of the school’s police department.

This call to action follows the recent arrests of four students during a protest outside the president’s residence.

News 8 saw approximately a hundred students rally at Beinecke Plaza.

One protester expressed their concerns, stating, “Seeing that kind of violence in response to a peaceful protest is really upsetting, especially when YPD says their mission is to keep students safe and community members safe,” said Chisato Kimura, student. “We saw the opposite of that on Wednesday, and we keep repeatedly seeing the opposite of that. That’s why we’re out there tonight. We continue to be out here and continue to be mobilizing. We also know there are deep links between the Israeli police department and Yale police and just highlighting that all of these different struggles are interconnected.”

“Yale welcomes and protects the rights of students who gather peacefully to express their views,” a spokesperson told News 8.
