If you’ve been fortunate enough to visit New Haven, Connecticut, you’ve likely indulged in the legendary pizza at one of their renowned restaurants. If not, prepare for a culinary adventure, as you’ll soon have more opportunities to experience one of these famous slices.

This expansion will more than double the size of the restaurant’s presence in New England. See where you’ll soon be able to get a piece of pie in this video from April 18.

@Sally’s Apizza, one of the legendary New Haven, Connecticut pizzerias, is once again expanding. There are currently three locations in Connecticut (New Haven, Fairfield and Stamford) and one in Woburn, Mass. A restaurant is also coming soon to Boston’s Seaport. #nbc10boston #connecticut #newhaven #pizza #apizza #onebite #restaurant #news #fyp @nbcconnecticut

According to @ nbc10boston , Sally’s Apizza (@ sallysapizza ) will soon open four new locations in Connecticut. They include Wethersfield and West Hartford, which will be opening this summer, followed by Norwalk in Newington later in the year. A new location is also coming soon to the Boston Seaport.

The original location, which opened in 1938 on Worcester Street in New Haven, is still in operation today. Sally's Pizza also has stores in Stamford and Fairfield and recently opened its first Massachusetts location in Woburn. If you don’t have a trip to New England planned but want to try a slice, they ship their famous frozen pie nationwide.

This beloved pizza place was founded by Salvatory (Sally) Consiglio, the nephew of Frank Pepe, who founded another iconic New Haven restaurant, Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napolitan o, which opened in 1925. This pizzeria also continues to operate its original Worcester Street location, along with six more stores in CT and nine other locations on the East Coast, including two in Florida.

Both restaurants offer thin-crust coal-fired oven pizzas and pride themselves on using fresh, quality ingredients. While there is no actual known ‘pizza war’ between these two restaurants, fans on either side are quick to defend their favorite. As competition brings awareness, these two restaurants have learned to thrive alongside each other for decades. If that wasn't enough greatness in one city, there is also Modern Apizza, which has been operating under that name since the 1940s. If you’re a pizza lover, New Haven is the place to go.

After spending over 45 years in Connecticut, I am embarrassed to admit that I have only tried Pepe’s, which I absolutely adore. However, I am eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to try Sally's for the first time this summer during one of my trips to New England. Some may argue that the pizza might not be as good in a satellite location as the original, but Pepe’s other locations come close, and I’m confident Sally’s will, too. These restaurant giants certainly know a thing or two about making great pie, and I do not doubt that they will continue to build their fan base for decades.

There are a few pizzas better than those found in New Haven, Connecticut. I’m very excited to hear that this outstanding brand will soon be available for even more to enjoy.
