    Good morning First State!

The unofficial start of summer begins this weekend with Memorial Day , but another season is following right behind.

June 1 is the opening day of hurricane season and this year is looking particularly scary, NOAA announced its hurricane forecast on Thursday and it's predicting a historic number of storms. The forecast was in line with the predictions from Colorado State University and Accuweather.com . While people will flock to the beach, and rightly so, we'll also be keeping an eye on the forecasts for the Atlantic Basin.

If you do head to the beach this weekend for some surf fishing, you might want to avoid Cape Henlopen State Park via Navy Crossing . The beach will be closed to vehicles. Though typically available to those with reservations, "the beach is too narrow, leaving insufficient space for vehicles," a Cape Henlopen State Park Facebook post announcing Navy Crossing's closure to vehicles said. The beach remains accessible by foot.

finally, prom season is wrapping up this week. We hope you've been enjoying the galleries. The final two proms of the year are tonight.

    And now, more news …
