Bally’s official tells lawmakers Tiverton hotel will stay closed; state rep pushes for property to be reopened or repurposed

Bally’s Corp. has no plans to reopen the hotel next to its Tiverton casino, which has sat empty since 2020, company officials told state lawmakers this week. During a meeting of the Permanent Joint Committee on State Lottery, Rep. Jay Edwards asked Craig Sculos, Bally’s senior vice president of Rhode Island regulatory relations, about the status of the structure adjacent to the casino. Sculos said the company’s property team continues to view reopening the hotel as not viable for the business.

Crazy Steak coming to former Tutto Italiano spot in Lakeville

A new sign outside a familiar Route 44 storefront in Lakeville has raised a couple of questions. What's opening there, and what exactly is it called? A commenter in a private Facebook group recently reported seeing a sign for Simply Steak at the former Tutto Italiano location in Lakeville Business Center, wondering whether a restaurant or butcher shop was moving in. But a photograph taken for The Enterprise on Tuesday, Nov. 3, revealed something else. The sign actually reads Crazy Steak, with the tagline "Seriously Fresh." And as it turns out, the man behind the business has a different take on how steak should be served. Tim Malinosky, a longtime restaurant operator who also runs the wedding venue Loon Pond Lodge in Lakeville, is preparing to open the new eatery at 12 Harding St. What businesses previously occupied the space? The storefront has seen several businesses come and go, including Tutto Italiano, the Italian deli and specialty food shop longtime residents may remember. New Bedford holiday show brings music to the stage

New Bedford Festival Theatre will bring "Carols and Cocktails," a one-night holiday revue featuring music and special guests, to the Zeiterion Theater on Dec. 12. The performance begins at 7 p.m. at 684 Purchase St., New Bedford, according to a community announcement. The show stars married duo Erin Ban and Matt Ban along with Olivia Marques, Mia Daley, Francis Garner and New Bedford Festival Theatre co-founder George Charbonneau. Ban has appeared in New Bedford Festival Theatre productions of "Les Miserables," "The Sound of Music" and "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." Matt Ban's credits include Broadway's "Rock of Ages" and national tours of "Rock of Ages" and "Matilda." Marques appeared in the festival theater's "Beauty & the Beast," while Daley appeared in "Escape to Margaritaville." Garner is a Boston and Provincetown cabaret performer, according to the announcement.
