    Neptune Gears Up for Juneteenth Celebration

    NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP - As June approaches, Neptune MURC is preparing for its Fourth Annual Juneteenth Celebration.  On June 15th, the community is invited to gather at 10:00 AM at Midtown Commons Park (West Lake Ave, Neptune, NJ 07753) for a Juneteenth observance that will include a community gospel concert, resource fair, health screenings, arts and crafts, face painting, giveaways, food and much more.

    At 12:45, a Unity Parade will kick off from Midtown Commons Park to Springwood Park, and will include participants of all types.  Neptune MURC is seeking individuals, groups, clubs and families to participate.  To register, please email info@neptunemurc.com or call (732) 988-4000 (leave name and phone number via voicemail).

    Neptune Mayor Tassie York, Neptune Township's first Black woman to serve in this position, shared "Neptune will be celebrating Juneteenth with the raising of the flag, in front of the municipal building, on June 15th.  It's an honor to be able to celebrate!:

    The history of Juneteenth began on June 19th, 1865.  It is also known as "Freedom Day," as it is the day that word of President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclaimation finally arrived to the furthest west point of Galveston, Texas, nearly two years after its issuance.
