NEOSHO, Wis. -- Dodge County Board Supervisor Daniel Siegmann was arrested Wednesday after bringing a gun to Honor Elementary School in Neosho, the county's sheriff said.

In a statement, Sheriff Dale Schmidt said his office took four separate reports Tuesday from citizens as well as a phone call from the Herman/Neosho/Rubicon (HoNoR) School District that Siegmann had brought a firearm to a meeting with a district administrator.

Siegmann represents Dodge County's 10th Supervisory District, which encompasses the Town of Rubicon, Village of Neosho and the western portion of the City of Hartford. He also serves on the HoNoR School Board.

Schmidt said that, due to past comments by Siegmann that were critical of the Dodge County Sheriff's Office's operations, it was determined that an outside agency would investigate the incident.

The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office was brought in and, as a result of its investigation, deputies arrested Siegmann prior to Wednesday's scheduled HoNoR School Board meeting.

Siegmann was taken to the Dane County Jail and faces charges for possession of a firearm in a school.

Despite a policy to not name people accused of crimes until they’re formally charged in court, News 3 Now is naming the suspect in this story because of the nature and severity of the alleged crime. Click here to learn more about the station’s naming policy .

A previous report from the Dodge County Sheriff's Office indicated that Siegmann brought a gun to the school on Wednesday. This report has been edited to reflect the correct date.
