BioBlitz Palooza

NELSONVILLE — Wayne National Forest will host Summer BioBlitz Palooza on Thruday and Friday at Baileys Trail System as part of COSI — Center of Science and Industry's annual Science Festival.

These free, self-led activities use the iNaturalist smartphone app to identify plants, animals, and other wildlife in some of our most popular recreation areas. Your BioBlitz journey can begin at any open public area.

The Baileys Trail System event has free but limited parking, approximately 10-15 spots at Chauncey-Dover Trailhead Park. Free street parking within walking distance is located in nearby Chauncey.

Fan Collection

U4meme4U, a nonprofit dedicated to helping children reach their educational potential, is collecting fans, both used and new, to help the community's elderly and those in need who cannot afford to purchase a fan for themselves. They will be delivered on Memorial Day.

Registration Deadline

The deadline for community's to submit a team for Athens County Together is Wednesday.

The yearlong annual program pairs teams of community-based volunteers with Athens County staff and area stakeholders to assist citizens and communities with improvement efforts.

Each team will receive $1,000 from the Athens County Commissioners for implementation of a community improvement project upon submission of a community improvement 2024 Funding Request Form.
