Poll: Vote for the Journal's May 5-12 Athletes of the Week
Several milestones were reached, some upsets pulled and playoff berths secured last week as the regular season winds down. As such, we've got a full list of nominees. Last week's Athlete of the Week winners were Pawling softball player Lyndsey Cole and Roosevelt baseball player Aidan Hartwell. Cole won the small-schools poll with 29,454 votes and Hartwell received 19,202 votes to take the large-schools poll.
Mahopac Honors Outgoing Seniors, But Can’t Get Past Rams
MAHOPAC, N.Y.— Senior Danny Koch had a hat-trick and an assist, and senior Liam Scanlon added two goals, but it wasn’t enough last Friday night on Senior Night at Mahopac High School, as the Wolf Pac dropped an 11-6 decision to the neighboring Carmel Rams. Newburgh Free Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 5-1 to the Washingtonville Wizards. Newburgh Free Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Washingtonville apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.
