Vanderbilt baseball is in an unfamiliar situation: the bubble.

The Commodores (34-18, 12-17 SEC) still control their own destiny, but they will need at least one win in Lexington over SEC-leading, third-ranked Kentucky to feel good about their chances in the NCAA tournament. Vanderbilt is 2-12 on the road in conference play this season.

The Commodores lost seven consecutive SEC games before getting a win in the series finale against Tennessee, the longest conference losing streak they have had under Tim Corbin. The record was six in 2022.

The last time they missed the NCAA tournament was 2005. Vanderbilt's 17 consecutive tournament appearances is the longest active streak in the country and tied for the longest in the history of the SEC.

Vanderbilt baseball vs. Kentucky: Game results

Thursday: Vanderbilt lost 10-5 as Bryce Cunningham was not sharp and gave up seven runs in 2⅔ innings, walking four and striking out only one. Luke Guth threw three innings in relief, allowing one run and striking out four, but the pitching staff as a whole walked more batters (seven) than it struck out (six).

Jonathan Vastine and Camden Kozeal had two hits and a home run apiece. Calvin Hewett walked twice and was hit by a pitch and stole two bases.

Friday: Vanderbilt lost 17-7. A more pressing issue, though, is that Carter Holton left the game after recording just one out. He was checked by the trainer early in his outing and remained in the game but was removed two batters later. Catcher Alan Espinal, who had recorded a two-run double, was removed from the game in the sixth inning. It is unclear if the removal was due to injury.

The Commodores recorded 14 hits, including three each from Matthew Polk and Jonathan Vastine. Calvin Hewett and Davis Diaz both hit home runs.
