May 15, 2024 – A convicted felon was quickly apprehended Monday following a shooting on Panorama Drive that injured a 37-year-old man.

The man said he was exercising outside when he became involved in a verbal altercation with the suspect, identified a short time later as Jonathan Scott Oglesby, 46. Oglesby allegedly retrieved a firearm from his nearby residence before returning and firing multiple shots, striking the victim in his leg and foot.

The victim was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

North Precinct patrol officers located Oglesby walking his dog down the street and approached him for questioning. Oglesby was asked to secure his dog several times, but he refused.

Oglesby began walking away from officers when the dog turned toward the officers, slipped out of its collar, and aggressively charged at an officer.

The officer fired one round, fatally wounding the dog.

Oglesby, who has 12 felony convictions, was positively identified and taken into custody. He was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and being a felon in possession of a weapon.

He is currently jailed on $77,500 bond.
