Jessica Hood, owner of JM Embroidery, has been printing the stickers. She said Oakland High School softball coach Charlotte Peay collaborated with her on the design. Hood explained it was inspired by the Vanderbilt University logo since Asher is a big Commodores fan. Peay’s team debuted the decals at their recent district tournament.
“After going to see the players at Oakland and getting their helmets prepped for the game, we all prayed for the family,” Hood said. “It was a special moment, hard to describe in words.”
“We had stuck the stickers to our helmets to show everyone and to remind ourselves that we were playing for something bigger,” said Olivia Logan, a senior softball player at Oakland High School. “We were playing for Asher. Today, we are still praying for the sweet boy and we will not stop. We love you Asher.”
Hood then took to her small business’s social media page to share the sticker and the meaning behind its creation.
“The post has really taken off,” Hood said. “Last I counted, we are close to 5,000 stickers being made and ordered.”
Hood said she’s been printing the honorary Asher stickers nonstop and giving them out free of cost to those who’ve placed orders or requested one.
“Some people are putting stickers on desks at school, windows of their businesses, and helmets of baseball, softball and football teams,” Hood said.
Hood made certain to thank MidSouth Sewing , a local supply business, that’s been donating to help cover the cost of supplies as well as community members who have offered to volunteer their labor. She emphasized that she has no desire to make a profit off of the Asher-inspired stickers.
Although it’s a lot of time and effort, Hood said she’s at peace knowing how many people are keeping Asher top of mind.
“When they’re applying that sticker, they’re absolutely thinking of Asher, so in that moment, that’s considered to me a prayer and then it has a ripple effect,” Hood said. “If that player is getting a sticker, then they’re probably going to tell their parent about it, or a classmate about it, or anyone else that might be around them. So as much as it’s 5,000 stickers, the ripple effect behind it could be thousands and thousands more.”
If you’d like to order the honorary Asher stickers, visit the JM Embroidery Facebook page . Hood said the best way to do that is by commenting how many you’d like under this post . She said the business will acknowledge your request by liking your comment and will reply back when they’re ready for pick up at her storefront (7785 Highway 99, Rockvale, TN 37153).
