    2 critically injured after single-vehicle crash in The Nations

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Two people were taken to a hospital early Tuesday morning following a single-vehicle crash in The Nations neighborhood in West Nashville.

    According to officials, the crash happened just after 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Centennial Boulevard and 51st Avenue North.

    A preliminary investigation indicates that a 30-year-old woman driving a Kia Soul was heading west on Centennial Boulevard when she suddenly crossed over the two eastbound lanes and drove off the road.

    Police at the scene initially told News 2 that the car hit a dumpster before it crashed into a building at 5115 Centennial Boulevard. However, officials later clarified that the vehicle hit the dumpster and “lightly tapped” the building.

    Authorities said the woman and her male passenger were both taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to be treated for their injuries.

    The driver’s injuries are reportedly life-threatening. Meanwhile, the passenger was last known to be in stable condition, officials said.

    Crews shut down a portion of Centennial Boulevard as they were investigating the crash. According to police, there were no obvious signs of impairment at the scene.

    Evidence gathered during the investigation indicated that the driver was going faster than the posted speed limit of 35 mph before the crash, officials reported.

    No other information was immediately released.
