Lee County Sheriff's Office identifies missing Naples kayaker, search continues Thursday

A day after authorities responded to a kayak adrift off Fort Myers Beach , the Lee County Sheriff's Office has released the believed owner's identity, hoping to find him.

When the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and U.S. Coast Guard responded around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, they found documents within the kayak belonging to Kenneth Humiston, 77, of Naples.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office received a call for service regarding an abandoned kayak floating approximately 3 nautical miles off the coast of Bonita Beach, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Missing Naples kayaker's friends: 'We are devastated and remain optimistic'

Santiago Gomez, spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard, said Wednesday they received a report around 12:20 p.m. of an adrift kayak found southwest of Big Carlos Pass.

Members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, Collier County Sheriff's Office, and U.S. Coast Guard searched the area, including Estero Bay and Wiggins Pass.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said they continue their search efforts with the U.S. Coast Guard and are working closely with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
