Florida to Face Extended Shortages Amid Thanksgiving

The holiday season is different this year.

If you want to buy your gifts before Thanksgiving and Christmas, you better start buying them straight away. Florida is dealing with a supply chain crisis that is affecting everything from Coffee to Microchips. Shipping containers are also in short supply.

The exact scope of the crisis is still being assessed, and it could be worse than first expected.

Shopping days are right around the corner

Amazon Day, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday will come sooner than people expect. We have less than two months before an avalanche of shopping deals falls in our laps. Then Christmas and New Year's follow suit.

This would be a happy season for most years, but this time Floridians have concerns. The supply-line crisis is storming throughout the United States. Ships are docked, waiting for approval. Fewer truck drivers are out there moving fewer gods. Retail workers are joining hands in the Great Resignation. Shops are filing for bankruptcy.

Experts all agree on one thing. Start shopping now!

"I'd get going right away if you want to have something under the Christmas tree," says Mark Zandi from Moody's Analytics.

    Costco implemented early-pandemic measures

Big corporations are feeling the drawbacks of trying to maintain cheap labor.

Nike and Costco are dealing with extreme pressure. Nike is closing some of its Asian operations, especially factories. Costco is reinstating measures similar to those in the early pandemic days.

Costco limited all purchases of toilet paper, kitchen rolls, cleaning supplies, and similar products.

If the crisis continues this way, experts are worried that Floridians could have a recession on their hands and a limited holiday season.

Florida shops and restaurants might soon face empty shelves and skeleton staff.

What to expect this holiday season?

    • Longer delivery times
    • Less stuff on the shelves
    • Less food to go around
    • Fewer venues open
    • Fewer holiday deals
    • Higher prices

Shopping disruptions are set to hit every county in Florida this fall. Currently, we're not aware of a plan to remedy this situation. But Florida officials are aware of this situation, and they're working to fix it.

Are you worried about the supply-chain issues?
