(SAN RAMON, Calif.) A police officer tracked down a suspect who hit his patrol car and attempted to flee early Tuesday, East Bay Times reports.

The officer was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital after he tracked down the suspect, subduing him with a taser.

The officer was later released from the hospital on Tuesday.

The suspect is now facing charges of assault against a police officer, felony evasion and for an outstanding warrant from San Joaquin County for an alleged burglary.

The incident happened on Crow Canyon Road at approximately 8 a.m. when the officer pulled the suspect over. The suspect then drove his vehicle into the patrol car before driving away to I-680.

However, the engine of the suspect vehicle began to fail on the freeway. The suspect then abandoned his on Sycamore Valley Road, jumped an overcrossing fence and began running away above the freeway.

A portion of the freeway was shut down until the suspect was arrested. The officers located him under a freeway underpass with one officer using a taser to subdue him.

The suspect vehicle had fake plates and had been reported stolen from San Francisco, police say.
