    Shooting causes BART closure at Fruitvale station

    (OAKLAND, Calif.) The Fruitvale BART station in East Oakland was closed Sunday night after a man was injured in a nearby shooting, East Bay Times reports.

    Police were notified of the shooting by a ShotSpotter alert at approximately 8:35 p.m. Officers discovered a man suffering from several gunshot wounds near the intersection of San Leandro Street and 34th Avenue.

    According to reports, the victim was a man in his 20s but authorities have yet to release his identity.

    He was transported to a nearby hospital. His condition was not immediately unknown.

    Officers responding to the incident set up a perimeter around the man while paramedics provided him with care before transporting him to a hospital.

    Officials from BART responding to the incident said that they closed the station for 20 minutes as a precautionary measure before reopening.

    Officers have not released a possible motive for the shooting and no arrests have been made at this time.

    A $5,000 reward is being offered for any additional information leading to the arrest of the shooter.
