(SAN JOSE, Calif.) Starting Thursday, Santa Clara County residents age 16 and older can start booking appointments for a COVID-19 vaccine instead of waiting until April 15.

According to NBC Bay Area, residents can sign up to get vaccinated as long as the appointment isn't before April 15.

Getting an appointment depends on a lot of factors, including vaccine supply.

"This past week we were able to open over 50,000 first dose appointments but they get taken up pretty quickly,” said Dr. Marty Fenstersheib, county vaccine director, per NBC Bay Area.

Multiple vaccination sites, including VMC and Levi’s Stadium, have been preparing for the expected rush.

“We have been staffing our sites to the maximum capacity it can hold, so that is really the biggest ramp up we’ve been doing in the past two weeks,” said Nelda David, health site manager, per NBC Bay Area.

County officials emphasize residents be patient and show up for appointments on time.
