(LOS ANGELES) Former reality television star and famed Olympic runner Caitlyn Jenner is reportedly actively considering running for California governor as Gov. Gavin Newsom faces an active recall election, according to Axios.

Jenner, a high-profile Republican, who previously supported former President Donald Trump in 2016, is said to be assisted in her consideration by longtime GOP fundraiser Caroline Wren.

Wren worked at Trump Victory, a joint fundraising committee for President Trump's 2020 campaign and also helped organize the Jan. 6 rally ahead of the Capitol Hill riot.

The former 1976 Olympic decathlon winner returned to the public spotlight for several years in the reality show “Keeping up with the Kardashians" and came out as transgender in 2015.

Newsom has been facing a recall campaign by Republicans for his immigration and tax policies and the effort gained momentum amid criticism of his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The last time a California governor faced a recall effort, they were replaced by a public entertainment figure.

Democratic California Gov. Gray Davis was recalled in 2003 and was replaced by Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger, a former bodybuilder and "Terminator" series star.

Wren and a spokesperson for Jenner declined to comment on Axios' scoop.
