(OAKLAND, Calif.) A man wielding a knife in Terminal 1 of the Oakland Airport triggered an evacuation that lasted several hours on Tuesday morning, KRON4 reports.

The incident lasted nearly four hours and began at approximately 5:45 a.m. and ended around 9:40 a.m. after negotiators from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office were able to diffuse the situation.

The negotiations took place in the baggage claim area and security checkpoint, according to the sheriff’s office.

Paramedics were then able to wheel the suicidal man on a gurney to an ambulance. No injuries were reported at the scene.

The man did not threaten to harm anyone with the knife other than himself, according to the sheriff’s office.

Passengers who had flights booked with Alaska, Delta, Frontier and Hawaiian airlines faced delays after the outside of Terminal 1 was closed at 9:30 a.m.

There were a total of seven flights departing from Terminal 1 that were facing delays by 9:30 a.m. The incident also caused 10 flights at Terminal 2 to be delayed, according to airport spokesperson Robert Bernardo.

    No other information was available.
