Man arrested, charged with first degree murder after police find woman stabbed dead in Muldrow

MULDROW, Okla. — A man was arrested after authorities say he stabbed a woman to death in Muldrow.

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), 34-year-old Matthew Whitfield was arrested Monday on a first degree murder charge. He's accused of killing 55-year-old Nekaita Nance.

OSBI says on Monday, the Muldrow Police Department (MPD) requested their help with a homicide investigation after officers found Nance dead from a stab wound.

According to OBSI, MPD officers were called to a disturbance near Southwest Third Street and South Baker Street in Muldrow. Court documents say Whitfield was seen entering and exiting a residence and acting violent towards nearby workers.

MPD officers found Whitfield, who said Nance was sleeping inside the apartment. When Nance didn't reply to shouts, officers did a welfare check and found her dead with a stab wound to the neck.

Court documents say officers tried to detain Whitfield but he resisted. Officers tased him to gain control.

OSBI agents investigated the scene and interviewed Whitmer, who said he stabbed Nance twice. Whitmer was arrested and booked into the Sequoyah County Jail.

FOX23 will continue to follow this story for updates.
