Moyie Springs Outdoor market returns for second year
MOYIE SPRINGS — The Moyie Springs Outdoor Market is returning for a second year with opening day set for May 4. The market will be promoting a Mother’s Day basket, which will include items from vendors. Customers will receive a raffle ticket with purchase at booths on May 4 and May 11, with a drawing taking place on May 11 at the closing of market. Each vendor will be contributing to the basket with an item from their booth.
Kootenai Tribe sees continued success
The Kootenai Tribe of Idaho had a phenomenal 2023. We continued to see success in both our government projects and our commercial enterprises. The Tribe won an environmental restoration grant for Ambush Rock, a culturally significant area reacquired by the Tribe in 1993. Our Environmental Department will oversee the work to clean the site to remove health hazards from previous industrial use.
BFPD remains focused on serving, protecting
For the Bonners Ferry Police Department, calendar year 2023 into the first quarter of 2024 has yielded significant change within our department. Former Assistant Police Chief, Marty Ryan retired in early December, where the role of assistant chief saw the police department's 2023 Officer of the Year, Jeremy Garrett, promoted to that position. Assistant Chief Garrett, has been an invaluable asset to our department and community since he started as a patrol officer here early in 2022. Assistant Chief Garrett brought with him over 10 years of law enforcement experience from South Carolina and Washington state.

Hansen, special agent for the Spokane International Railway Company, captured a Dodge truck, loaded with booze at the Great Northern sub-grade crossing between Naples and Moravia, early Sunday morning and placed under arrest the two men who were driving the truck. The truck, a new Dodge, carried 29 cases of liquor, packed in sacks.

Pioneer Lodge, a venue meant to be shared
MT. HALL — Pioneer Lodge is a turn-key venue just 20 minutes north of Bonners Ferry, whether you’re looking for a family staycation or a wedding venue. With views of Mission Creek, the Kootenai Valley and Hall Mountain, Dennis and Anita Dinning originally used the lodge as a family cabin. Truth in sentencing
To the Editor:About a year ago, I was cast into the dark underside of the law when I was issued a $50 citation for my dog trespassing on a private property.I recently read of a criminal sentencing, though more serious in nature (involving gun play, recklessness and other infractions) where the offender’s charges were amended and even dismissed for having a “college degree in forestry.”Not one to question the wisdom of Lincoln County jurisprudence; with a degree in forestry myself (UM 1976), I was puzzled as to what the hell this had to do with anything?With that in mind, I then wondered if I too could be shown some leniency and be reconsidered as a respectable citizen and get my fifty bucks back?Tom Horelick, Libby

NICA sees a year of milestones
