Memorial Day observances planned
Memorial Day observances have been announced for Monday, May 27 in Hillsboro, Greenfield, Pricetown and South Salem. In Hillsboro, the program will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial on the west side of the Highland County Courthouse. The speaker will be Thomas Payne, who spent 25 years in the U.S. Air Force before retiring as a major.

Waterford upsets Whiteoak for sectional title
MOWRYSTOWN, Ohio — Waterford pulled off a sectional final stunner Wednesday evening, taking down second-seeded Whiteoak to advance to the district semifinals. Waterford took the hosts to extras before plating a pair of runs in the 10th. Zavier Heiss, who entered the game in the ninth, pitched a scoreless 10th to lock down the victory. Heiss relieved starter Colten Jones, who pitched eight strong innings and allowed one run on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

District Lion of the Year
The Lynchburg Lions Club received several special awards in recognition of its community service and promotion projects at the recent District 13-OH6 Lions Convention. The club received first place for small division clubs in the governor’s competition, an award presented in recognition of total program activities throughout the year that recognizes local, district and worldwide service projects, fundraising and support of the local community. The club received third place for communications and public relations. Jim Faust received recognition for his service on the district cabinet and Ohio Lions Foundation State Board. The club also received several certificates for donations to special projects. The club thanked the community for its support and urged anyone interested in joining to contact any Lions member. Five local students named to SNHU President’s List
Five local students were named to the Southern New Hampshire University winter 2024 President’s List, according to a news release. The winter term runs from January to May. The students are: Jenna Fields of Wilmington, Brittany Lennon of Wilmington, McKinley Law of Wilmington, Joshua Tetreault of Lynchburg, and Logan Mullins of Lynchburg.

Fayetteville, Ohio — The Fayetteville FFA chapter hosted its annual banquet April 17, to celebrate the accomplishments of its members and recognize the active community. The chapter recognized Danny Grant with an Honorary Membership Degree. The chapter also recognized Tisha Wolfer for her outstanding effort and dedication to the chapter. Members were recognized for earning FFA degrees, proficiency awards, Star Awards and more. To end the evening, the new officer team was installed. It includes President Warren Murphy, Vice President Landon Huber, secretary Cole Gauche, treasurer Josie Pfeiffer, sentinel Isaak Adae, reporter Gracie Grant and student advisor Maya Murphy.
